The Municipal Park located in front of Torre Universal is being transformed into an oasis for the biodiversity of native species in the area, thanks to an innovative initiative led by said Real Estate Portfolio project, which seeks to turn this space into a friendlier and more pleasant place. for the community and, at the same time, in an ecological refuge.

The main objective of this project is to generate an ecosystem contribution to an area that maintains a direct biological relationship with the María Aguilar River. Planting native species in this park not only improves its appearance but also promotes connectivity and movement of species towards the city.

A total of 1,200 individuals have been planted, of 9 different species of native herbaceous and shrubby plants. Among them are the mañanita, the viborona, the yellow verbena, the five negritos, the amapolita, the sage, the phosphorite, the coralillo and the fox tail.

“These native species are essential for attracting various species of wildlife, particularly birds and butterflies. The flowering of these plants provides food in the form of nectar and pollen, essential for pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds. Also, they conserve the genetic diversity of species by offering spaces for connectivity, maintain soil fertility by fixing nitrogen and carbon, and help purify the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Added to all this, they provide cultural benefits by being a recreation space in the middle of nature,” said Diana Villarreal, Torre Universal project director.

Selected plant species benefit a wide variety of local birds and butterflies. For example, the coralillo, the viborona, the five negritos, the amapolita and the phosphorite attract 12 species of diurnal butterflies and 3 species of nocturnal butterflies. Additionally, the foxtail is visited by 6 species of hummingbirds.

To ensure the long-term longevity and protection of this project, there are opportunities for local residents to actively participate in its care and preservation. This not only contributes to environmental conservation, but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility.

“For now, Torre Universal is focused on volunteer projects with the community, and this park is one of its main initiatives. However, the possibility of future similar projects in the coming months is not ruled out,” Villarreal indicated.

This project exemplifies how collaboration between companies and communities can transform urban spaces to benefit biodiversity and the quality of life for all. The Municipal Park in front of Torre Universal has become a role model for the restoration of urban green areas and the promotion of harmonious coexistence between nature and the city.
