Portafolio Inmobiliario wins three categories at the Sustainable Construction Awards 2023

Sustainability in construction is not only possible but also profitable. This is acknowledged by the national industry, awarding Portafolio Inmobiliario in the Company category at the Sustainable Construction Awards 2023.

The recognitions, presented by the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction on October 31st, also highlighted two of Portafolio Inmobiliario's recent developments: Aleste in Curridabat, winner of the New Project category, and C3 Cariari Corporate Center, recognized for Improvement in Built Project.

Alfredo Volio, CEO of Portafolio Inmobiliario, received the awards as a sign of the transformative path that the construction industry should embark on in Costa Rica and around the world.

"In 2023, we celebrate our 25th anniversary with the certainty that we have made a difference, but aware that this is just the beginning. Our purpose is to drive development by transforming our cities. To achieve this, we integrate sustainability throughout the project's life cycle, from the early design stages to development and operation," explained Volio.

The awards given to Portafolio Inmobiliario, Aleste, and C3 Cariari Corporate Center are recognition of the corporate milestones achieved in recent years. In 2023, Aleste completed its operation as the first project with a Biodiversity Plan, while C3 Cariari Corporate Center completed a renovation process framed within retrofit practices that allowed the utilization of 85.5% of pre-existing structures.

This is possible because Portafolio Inmobiliario has a pioneering sustainability strategy in the real estate and construction industry. According to this strategy, projects go beyond building development, incorporating methodologies for biodiversity conservation, sustainable construction, environmental awareness, and community inclusion.

Industry transformation Aware of the impact of real estate development on societies and with the goal of placing sustainability at the core of the business, Portafolio Inmobiliario developed a Corporate Sustainability Policy and its 2020-2024 Sustainability Strategy in the late 2010s. In May of 2023, the company published its first Sustainability Report.

Portafolio Inmobiliario's sustainability strategy is based on four pillars: Collective Empathy, focusing on meeting the needs of collaborators and communities; Circular Operation, seeking to reduce the environmental impacts of project operations; Eco-construction, aimed at resource efficiency and waste management in construction processes; and Governance and Communication, focused on compliance with legislation and ethical practices.

"Our commitment is to ensure that the design, construction, and operation of projects are based on human development and respect for the environment," emphasized Volio.

On this journey, Portafolio Inmobiliario involves the leaders of the largest construction companies in its value chain, about 30 companies with whom it has organized informational sessions and to whose representatives it has presented its Sustainability Strategy, the Eco-construction guide, and the importance of jointly promoting a more sustainable construction sector.
