The Real Estate Portfolio company launched the Avenida Viva Talks initiative. This is a series of meetings that seek to enhance collective understanding to build more inclusive and equitable cities.

The first session of Avenida Viva Talks took place on Avenida Escazú under the title “Woman and City”.

This first meeting had as its central theme the experience of women as users of the urban environment and their contribution to its reconfiguration.

“Women have historically been excluded from urban design processes. This results in environments that do not consider your needs and interests.

“In this context, Avenida Viva Talks seeks to elevate their voices, perspectives and experiences to co-create a manifesto that inspires the city we dream of and deserve,” commented Avenida Escazú Project Director Johnny Jaikel.

'Woman and City'
The meeting brought together a group of approximately 30 women from municipal sectors, private companies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

The profile of the participants included urban planners, architects, communicators, gender experts, municipal officials and mothers.

“'Woman and City' featured Andrea Sangil, founder of the Center for Urban Sustainability in Costa Rica, as a speaker. She led an insightful conversation about what it means to be a woman in today's city.

Also how the gender perspective has a lot to contribute to the common well-being.

The participants proposed improvements in road infrastructure and public transportation, public spaces designed from a gender perspective, and the creation of recreation and coexistence areas.

In addition, they stressed the importance of raising awareness in society about inclusive and safe cities that consider the needs of all people.

The day culminated with a collaborative workshop where the participants identified challenges and opportunities based on their own experiences in public spaces.

More inclusive cities
“It is vital that we listen to and take into account the experiences of women living in the city. Diversity of perspectives is essential to forging an inclusive and functional space.

City planning must actively integrate the gender perspective. It is not just about giving women a voice, but about empowering them to lead in the construction and transformation of our urban environments,” Jaikel stressed.

The Avenida Viva Talks initiative was born in response to the need to open spaces for conversation in the midst of the transformation process that cities are experiencing.

“Our commitment is to continue opening spaces for dialogue that inspire real transformation in our cities, in this case empowering women and all people involved in urban development,” concluded the director of the Avenida Escazú project.
