On April 22, Earth Day is commemorated, the date on which it seeks to sensitize society about the importance of caring for and preserving the planet. In this context, Portafolio Inmobiliario highlights its commitment to sustainability, which has become in the backbone of the organization.

And it is that, with the aim of promoting responsible practices with the environment in all phases of the construction and operation process, the company has formed a sustainability committee for each of the 13 operating projects.

Likewise, during 2022, 2,524 hours of environmental training were given to collaborators, in order to promote a culture of sustainability throughout the organization, and this year the team continues to be trained.

Standardized processes have also been implemented to measure the environmental footprint of the projects in operation, which has made it possible to obtain the first LEED O+M v4.1 Gold certification in the Escazú Village project.

This recognition is geared towards policies and performance involving monitoring and evaluation of building performance after construction, including maintenance management.

Regarding energy generation, the company has managed to generate 9.22 terajoules (TJ) of solar energy in its projects, a figure equivalent to the monthly electricity consumption of 1,100 homes.

During the past year, 18% of the solid waste generated in the projects was valued, avoiding sending approximately 280 trucks of waste to the sanitary landfill.

Similarly, 50 tons of organic waste were composted, which is equivalent to the production of 25 tons of good quality compost, which can be used to improve soil fertility in agriculture.

With these figures, the company established a baseline that is projected to exceed during this period 2023.

On the other hand, the Lincoln Plaza, Universal Tower, Central Offices, Escazú Avenue, Escazú Village, El Cedral and Mango Plaza projects have reported their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories.

Identifying and quantifying the sources of these emissions makes it possible to assess the impact and define mitigation measures to reduce them; as well as identify opportunities for cost reduction, energy efficiency and for the implementation of clean technologies and sustainable practices.

Along the same lines, the Real Estate Portfolio has made progress in sustainable construction, inaugurating the Aleste project in Curridabat, whose vision is to contribute to the development of a walkable, inclusive, green and safe city, where people can enjoy their public life. , get in touch with cultural and recreational activities, actively participating in creating community.

With the implementation of the "Guide for the Management of Biodiversity in Business" methodology, Aleste carries out actions to protect biodiversity, strengthen ecosystem services, contribute to the prevention of erosion and adaptation to climate change.

Significant progress has also been made in the construction of the Costa Rica Green Valley project, located in Grecia, and its Nitrile Gloves industrial warehouse, which received the Ecological Blue Flag award in the Sustainable Construction category.

The transformation of C3 Cariari Corporate Center into a first-class mixed-use project was carried out, which allowed applying a global trend of reuse of real estate structures.

In the same way, the development of the AE300 building on Avenida Escazú began, in which, for the first time, the inventory of greenhouse gases from a construction process is being collected.

It is important to highlight that ten of the company's buildings are certified with the LEED standard, which demonstrates the Real Estate Portfolio's commitment to sustainability in construction.

In addition, the Nueve 84 building, part of Aleste, is the first residential building in the country to obtain EDGE certification.

Finally, the Real Estate Portfolio has trained 30 supplier companies in the guidelines for sustainable construction and community relations, and has measured the consumption of energy, water, and waste generation in a pilot plan for six projects in the construction phase.

All this is part of its business strategy with more than 102 measurement indicators, which marks a clear and ambitious path for the Real Estate Portfolio that is just beginning to be followed.
