In recent years, the real estate development and construction industry has worked to achieve greater equity in the sector.

The inclusion of women in each of the economic activities of a country is essential, in fact, it is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the 2030 Agenda.

Its goal number 5 maintains that empowering women and promoting gender equality is fundamental to accelerating sustainable development.

Real Estate Portfolio, a leading developer in the country, has this objective within its framework of priority SDGs.

Ana Laura Rojas and Diana Villarreal are two professionals from this company who work under the corporate purpose of transforming cities, which implies creating green, safe, walkable and inclusive spaces, with sustainability as the center of development.

Excellent spaces, memorable experiences

Ana Laura Rojas is Marketing and Communications Manager, she is a public relations officer, with an MBA in Marketing and Sales and has more than 15 years of experience in the area, managing mass consumption, retail and real estate industry brands.

From his position, he oversees the positioning strategies and support for the commercial management of corporate, residential, mixed-use, industrial and commercial projects, with a portfolio of more than $650 million and more than a thousand tenants.

Likewise, he leads the corporate communication area with the aim of creating relationships of trust and keeping the different interested parties informed about the organization's strategy.

“I am proud to say that I am in charge of a team with a high percentage of women, who do an extraordinary job contributing the vision of 50% of the world population —that is, the feminine vision— to the transformation of cities. This makes it possible to promote more inclusive, safer communities and meeting the needs of all populations”, Rojas details.

For this professional, it is gratifying to work for a leading company that not only develops and operates real estate projects, but also has a purpose that transcends.

In addition, she has the responsibility of creating memorable experiences in the projects, within a proposal that involves mental health, contact with nature, recreation and a positive relationship with the environment.

“Between all the projects, we generate more than 500 annual events that generate traffic, support commercial tenants, and generate value for communities,” Rojas details.

Sustainable Cities

Another case of leadership is that of Diana Villarreal, Director of Projects in the Real Estate Portfolio, she is an architect with a postgraduate degree in Design Management in Barcelona and a Master in Business Administration.

Today she has more than 12 years in this industry and began her work in the Real Estate Portfolio in 2015. She began as an architect and grew within the organization. Her apprenticeship led her to her current position, as Project Director.

“I am proud to be part of a group of women who have passionately sought to grow professionally, every day in the industry we see more presence of empowered women and it is a great responsibility to continue supporting us”, Villarreal indicates.

In these years of experience, he has noticed a transformation that forces the industry to question all processes and the sector's ability to adapt towards sustainability.

"Companies are facing the challenge of breaking paradigms and taking our entire value chain with us," says the director.

One of the projects he leads is Torre Universal, the first building to join the T-24 Innovation District of the Municipality of San José. Their work has raised the bar for the high standards of sustainability in the construction of the project, which earned it the LEED Certification for Building Design and Construction (LEED BD+C).

This has generated value for the Real Estate Portfolio and has allowed it to establish business relationships with companies that prioritize sustainability in business.

For the architect, each project must contribute to environmental, social and economic development.

“The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals must be north. These concepts are aligned with economic development, promoting gender equality, reducing inequalities, strengthening responsible production and consumption, decarbonizing the economy, among others; because there are no successful projects or companies, without prosperous and equitable communities”, he points out.
